Jimmy Twedt Wins BOA Year-End Championship
Cory Griebel Wins MWB Year-End Championship

The Bullriders Of America (BOA) held their finals on October 16 – 17, 2009 at the Tri State Rodeo Arena located in Fort Madison, Iowa. The top riders of the BOA competed in four rounds of competition on the top bulls provided by the stock contractors of the association. After two days of tough cometition it was Jimmy Twedt who took home the prized Year-End Championship and the Bob Berg buckle. Jimmy and Willy Ropp fought a hard battle all year long for this award. Willy did have the satisfaction of going home as the event champion winning the average by riding all four of his bulls for 344 points and $ 1,608.75 pay check plus his own Bob Berg buckle.

One of the highlights of the weekend was a special tribute for Evan Hecht, BOA Top 25 Qualifier, who is serving our country in Iraq and was unable to be at the BOA Finals. The tribute was led by singer Mark Keaton, Lincoln, NE. Mark sang “God Bless America” and Hecht’s brother David entered the arena to receive his brothers finals jacket for him. What made this so special was that David who had been seriouly injured in a rodeo accident was doing so with the aid of a walker and that he could do so at all was a tribute to his own courage and strength. To his surprise the tribute was not just for Hecht as it was for him as well. All the bull riders and personal came out into the arena to salute the two young men who both are members of the BOA. David who thought he was there to accept his brothers jacket was totally surprised by the tribute. A special thanks to Hannah Hilsabeck, Winterset, IA who carried the American flag and sponsor flags at both performances. Another special thanks goes to the 2009 BOA Girls who where on hand to sell BOA T-shirts and Sweat Shirts. Congratulations to all those who sold these items over the entire season. They raised enough money to pay for both the BOA Finals and Year End Champion Saddle. Results Bullriders Of America Finals

The elite of the best competitors from both the BOA and the MWB will set forth competing for over $15,000 in cash and prizes in an all out adrenaline filled action packed weekend that is bound to overload your senses.

Make no mistake there will hardly be a bit of room to even take a breath at the Tri-State Rodeo Arena, and if by chance a moment should arise you can be certain it will be surely stolen away by the wild and crazy, knee slapping antics of Allan Dessel, Hugo, Ok, the 2009 BOA Barrelman of the Finals. With every buck, spin, and jump of the 2009 BOA Finals the brisk fall air will be electrified by the voice of 2009 BOA Announcer of the Finals Troy Goodridge, Fort Scott, KS. Deep within the danger zone amongst the hooves, the dust, and the occasional blood you will find the 2009 Bullfighters of the Finals, Craig Check, WS; Jeremy Muntz, Denton, NE; and Andy Thompson, Auburn, IA providing top-notch, top-drawer cowboy protection. With each and every crack of the gate, Todd Crase, Winterset, IA; Kevin Dessel, Cherokee, IA; and Steve Snow, Hollywood, CA the 2009 BOA Judges of the Finals will be scoring both the bulls and the riders. A major component with any bull riding event is the animal athletes, the Bulls. This year there will be bulls from CC Bucking Bulls, WS; Double S Bull Company, IA; and D-D Rodeo Company, MO.

Throughout the year the BOA shows a tremendous amount of support for Breast Cancer Awareness. Each night of the finals this year there will be a 50/50 drawing with the proceeds going to Susan G.Koman Foundation. The riders were tough but the bulls were tougher! That was the story at the Annual Johnson County Agricultural & Mechanical Association Bullriding in Tecumseh, NE. Two men rode both their bulls while only one other man was able to cover his long-go bull. Kolt Donnelson not only rode his bull in both the long-go and the short-go but thrilled the crowd with a 91-point ride in the short-go! Kolt finished the event with 176 points to win $1543.50 and the 5th Annual Jerry Nolte Memorial Buckle. The gorgeous Bob Berg Buckle was presented by White Buffalo Productions owned by Todd Crase and Ryan Skillett in honor of the late Jerry Nolte of Tecumseh. Jason Branham also rode both of his bulls but finished in second with as score of 165.
One of the highlights of the night was when funnyman, Lance McLlvain, who is also a champion bullfighter, gave an exposition of freestyle bullfighting that thrilled the crowd and left the crowd on the edge of their seats.

The outstanding bull selected as the Bull of the Event was Buck Cherry who put Dusty Green to the ground in the short-go. This was the second event in a row that Dusty has drawn Buck Cherry in the short-go and the second time Buck Cherry has bucked him off before the whistle. I am sure Dusty is looking for a re-match!

The Extreme Bullriding Tour made its first visit to the Thayer County Fair on August 7. The fair which is located in Deshler, NE was the third stop for the tour during one of the busiest weeks of the tour. Many of the riders have been following along with the tour for the four stops in five days adding to the excitement at each stop as they reveal in the competition as well as the fellowship between riders and fans.

The bulls were the clear victors for the night with only four men making the 8-second whistle in the long-go and none covering the short-go. With lots of “close only counts in horseshoes” rides the fans got to watch lots of fast-action bull riding along with the extra attraction of Midwest Bullfighting. The highlight of the bullfighting was champion bullfighter, Lance McLlvean, who won the competition with a score of 84-points.

The outstanding bull selected as the Bull of the Event was Buck Cherry who put Dusty Green to the ground in the short-go.

The Extreme Bullriding Tour stop in Atlantic, Iowa, has a reputation – a very good reputation. With a capacity of close to 5000 the stands are traditionally full so it was no wonder that at 4:30 PM, three hours before the event started, there were already 200 people in the stands. By starting time it was hard to find even a place to stand! The bullriders of the National Federation of Professional Bullriders (NFPB) and the Bullriders of America (BOA), the two sanctioning bodies of the event, felt the electricity in the crowd and gave them their best. Even the bulls seemed to understand it was “show time” and put forth that extra effort to give the riders an extra challenge. In the end two men Josh Ehlers and Travis Van Larr tied for first with 87 points and checks for $927.16.

At each event a bull is selected as the Bull of the Event. 50 Smart Mouth earned this honor when he made fast work of putting his rider on the arena floor. The bulls of the Double S Bull Company “Attack Pack” owned by Shad and Vicki Smith of Sidney, Iowa, continue to do their best to convince their audiences that they are the real “stars” of the show.

One of the much anticipated portions of each year’s events is the “Wild Cow Ride” and fans were not disappointed with this year’s version. With local talent showing off their skills the fans cheered and applauded their efforts.

Two other highlights of the night were the Junior Bullriding won by John Young and the Midwest Bullfighting competition won by Cory Griebel.

Earlier in the day Extreme Bullriding Tour marketing director, Jennifer McDonald, was injured in a car accident and the entire Extreme Team wishes her a speedy recovery. Jennifer is also the mother of Extreme Princess, Abby McDonald, who also missed this event because of her mother’s accident. Abby normally does a 50/50 drawing for the benefit of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. In her absence the drawing was conducted by Miss NFPB 2009, Rachel Burton, and Miss Extreme Bullriding, Anna Hillsback, in honor of Abby and her commitment to this cause.

The combination of announcer, Chris Pyle and funnyman Allan Dessel was once again an explosive combination that mixed with great bullriding had filled the night with explosive excitement and entertainment that will last in fans memories for a long time.
